Global Dance Fest Detroit – Preview
Global Dance Fest is a touring festival taking place in four cities across the United States from July 18-22, and while any show at Red Rock’s in Morrison, CO would be a fantastic show, I am particularly excited for the acts coming to Global Dance Fest Detroit at the Royal Music Theater. Brought to you by React Detroit, who know how to throw a great party, the dirty yet tasteful electro house of Mord Fustang and Wolfgang Gartner (relatively new tracks from both featured below), followed by a great airy release of tension from trance greats Above & Beyond on July 18th should make for an excellent segway into the grime of the night to follow.
On the 19th, I am extremely excited to see Emalkay live, as I have yet so see one of his sets, and am a huge fan of his ethnic, eclectic, and unique style of undeniably filthy dubstep. The up-and-coming producer has been making quite a name on the scene recently, and has the potential to become quite a significant act. A little bit of slow and sexy moombahton from Dillon Francis should lighten the atmosphere a little bit before Australians Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen (formerly of the DnB band, Pendulum), aka Knife Party, throw down some of the filthiest music that has yet to be released since the recent surge in popularity of dirty bass waves and hard electronic music. If you haven’t yet, make sure to check out the relatively new Rage Valley EP. My favorite track is “Bonfire”, just because of how it sticks to the reggae roots of dub, but the entire EP is nothing short of extraordinarily well produced filth, and their energy contained (or maybe rather released) in their live sets is truly something to behold.
Make sure to get your tickets before they sell out! http://www.facebook.com/events/267512333329397/
